Safe as medieval armor! Stronghold drops for cats from fleas and other parasites, price and instructions for use

When choosing an antiparasitic agent for a cat, we are guided by information about the manufacturer, reviews, doctor's recommendations.

And, of course, we pay attention to the active substance and the range of problems with which it copes.

It is the last parameter that objectively distinguishes Stronghold from other drugs from external and internal parasites: only selamectin has no agrochemical analogues. It is used exclusively in veterinary medicine.

Who are we fighting with

Even fully relying on the advice of a veterinarian, before visiting him, it is useful to stock up on minimal knowledge about the culprits of our concern.

Ectoparasite - the word is difficult. Ecto means outside. With the second part - everything is clear: living at someone else's expense. Endoparasiteson the contrary, they harm from the inside.

A particular nuisance is that the former can act as a host for the latter. And it would be their personal problem, if not for the temporary nature of this coexistence: the external parasite is only an intermediate host for the internal parasite.

Ectoparasites of cats

Insects parasitize cats (fleas) and arachnids (pincers).

They not only feed on the tissues of the cat, but also cause diseases:

  • cause disease (mites - ear scabies);
  • carry pathogens: both infectious and parasitic (fleas - plague, helminths).

Interesting! Fleas so diligently adapted to ectoparasitism that they sacrificed their wings - they are "wingless for the second time."

The kind of common fleas that chose a cat as its owner, lives no more than two months... All this time they spend on the animal, feeding or simply walking on wool.

As a rule, on the cat litter, eggs, larvae and pupae... Of these, only the larvae eat. But not a cat, but decaying organic particles - skin, animal saliva or feces of adult fleas... In other words, what we get rid of by doing wet cleaning of the apartment, washing and ironing things, letting fresh air and sunlight into the house.

From the arachnid parasite Sarcoptes scabiei the cat will get sarcoptic mange... Most often suffers ear skin, elbows, knees, belly... Without treatment, the entire surface of the body is affected. A symptom that overshadows all others (redness, peeling, etc.) in its manifestation is very severe itching.

Mite Otodectos cynotis causes ear scabies or otodectosis. It will not go beyond the auricle and ear canal. In addition to (or instead of) intensive scratching of the cat's ears head shaking, rub it against objects... Postponing the visit to the veterinarian, you can wait for complications - the disease will reach the meninges, affecting the middle and inner ear along the way. Then the cat will have no time for scratching.

With itching secondary skin infection is inevitable (for example, staphylococci).

Important! Only a doctor diagnoses an invasion in a laboratory setting. The animal should be taken to the veterinary clinic as early as possible.

Consequences of cat infection with ectoparasites:

  • bites cause dermatitis;
  • the combs become infected, causing more and more itching and new infections;
  • helminths are transmitted to the cat's body.

Endoparasites of cats

These are round worms, otherwise - nematodes... Their presence in the body is called helminthiasis.

Cats and dogs chooses Ancylostomacausing hookworm... The larvae enter the body: through the mouth, skin or mother's placenta... The intestines are chosen as the place of life, the host's blood is the diet. Symptoms of invasion are local and general: from intestinal dysfunctions to severe anemia and general weakness.

Interesting! One helminth drinks up to 0.2 ml of blood per day.

Hookworms inflict harm to the cat "on all fronts":

  • the skin and subcutaneous tissue react to the introduction of the larva with urticaria;
  • migration in the body causes tissue diseases;
  • an adult helminth injures the intestinal wall (before the formation of bleeding wounds);
  • waste products of parasites cause intoxication of the body.

Toxocara larvae enter the host's body through the mouth. Symptoms are the same, plus frequent vomiting, sometimes signs of bronchopneumonia, epileptic convulsions.

But dirofilariasis is transmitted by insects, most often mosquitoes, including "basement" ones. Less commonly, ticks, horseflies, lice and fleas are carriers of the pathogen.

The consequences are serious: the lumens of the blood vessels narrow, muscle tissue degenerates, the respiratory system suffers (manifested by a weak dry cough) and the liver.

Important! If there is little dirofilaria in the body, the disease is asymptomatic. Therefore, the prevention of dirofilariasis is doubly important.

It is detected by a blood test and by clinical signs.

Treatment and prevention by Stronghold

Stroghold - selamectin... Ixodid ticks were not included in this list. But for a cat that lives only in an apartment, the likelihood of meeting them is very small.

In the case of dirofilariasis, Stronghold is a prophylactic drug. The terms of its monthly use will be determined by the doctor., knowing about the presence and period of activity of the pathogen in the region.

Helminthiasis is treated in one step, prevented - monthly.

In the case of uncomplicated otodectosis, a single treatment is also sufficient - a pre-cleaned ear.

  • bury it in the ear like ear drops, Stronghold cannot;
  • and if otitis media has begun, you first have to cure it.

Attention! Only a doctor can prescribe the simultaneous intake of different medications! And "simultaneity" can be calculated not in days, but in weeks.

The need to reapply drops (after a month) will also be determined by the veterinarian.

Treatment of sarcoptic mange requires two drops with a monthly interval, and the prophylactic regimen is customary - once a month.

Selamectin is well absorbed from the site of application (between the shoulder blades, on dry skin) and its action keeps the month; well tolerated by animals in recommended doses, including pregnant and lactating females.

Drops are available in pipettes of different sizes for two "weight categories" of cats, and the volume for heavyweights is two pipettes of different dosages.

Stronghold is sold without a prescription, in boxes with 3 pipettes of the same volume and detailed instructions.

Sellers conditionally classify it as “flea (and tick) drops for cats”, “insecticidal preparations for cats”. The average cost of a package of 0.25 ml pipettes is about 1300 rubles, for 075 ml - 1500 rubles. One pipette (retail) can be purchased for a little more than a third of the price of a kit. Accordingly, the price for one pipette is from 400 to 500 rubles.

Goden Stronghold 3 years, should be stored in a dark, dry place at a temperature of 3-30 degrees.

All parasites are afraid of:

  1. Regular deworming: once a quarter (pregnant cats and kittens during the feeding period - as prescribed by a doctor).
  2. Hygiene.
  3. Daily wet cleaning of the house, airing, sanitation.
  4. Washing, including high-temperature, and timely replacement of sunbeds, houses, toys.
  5. "Quarantine" for a new petif he came from the street or from an unfamiliar family.
  6. Attention to the cat - examinations, feeling, combing, observing behavior, maintaining immunity. And, of course, visits to the veterinarian: in case of ailments, doubts and for prophylaxis.
