Tomato Russian soul: variety description

The Russian soul tomato is a mid-early variety, from planting seedlings in the ground to ripening of fruits, it takes 100-105 days. The bush is indeterminate, standard, rather high 140-160 cm, in the southern regions it can reach 170-180 cm. Brings good yields both in unprotected soil and in greenhouse shelters.

Has a very high resistance to disease. Fully ripe fruits are bright red, even scarlet. Tomatoes are fleshy and have a balanced taste. They are round in shape. Tomatoes are very large from 350-600 gr, during the first harvest they can reach 700-850... Number of nests 6-8, dry matter content 5-7%. The harvested crop tolerates transportation well and ripens if the fruits are harvested slightly immature.

The Russian soul tomato variety was obtained in Russia by breeding specialists from Siberia in 1997. Received state registration as a variety for open ground and greenhouse shelters in 1998. Almost immediately became popular among lovers of large-fruited tomatoes and still takes its place among the list of favorite varieties.

The best yield results are shown in the south and in the middle lane, in the open field. The best regions for growing are Astrakhan, Crimea, Voronezh, Belgorod and Rostov-on-Don. In more northern regions, it is grown under film shelters or in greenhouses.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages of the "Russian soul" variety are:

  • unpretentiousness to external conditions;
  • tolerance to temperature extremes;
  • high productivity;
  • good disease resistance.

Among the shortcomings, it is noted that inexperienced summer residents often have difficulties with a trunk garter and a support under the branches. Requires tall greenhouses.

Growing features

Among the peculiarities of the variety, amateur summer residents and farmers note simply the unique unpretentiousness of the “Russian soul” variety. Also worth noting is the yield and high taste of the fruit. The trunk of the plant must be strengthened with garters, and its branches need props, this will prevent them from breaking off under the weight of the crop.

If the "Russian soul" grows in a greenhouse shelter, the bush is formed in two stems, in the open field in three. The soil does not need special preparation, this species grows well in any soil. At all stages of growth responds well to standard organic or mineral fertilizers.

Diseases and pests

This variety is not susceptible to fungal diseases. It can "get sick" if it is not properly cared for. In order to avoid such problems when cultivating this variety, you must regularly ventilate the room where your tomatoes grow, and prevent the soil from drying out. Sudden changes in temperature will not harm this species, but still you should not abuse it.

From harmful insects can be exposed to melons and gourds, against this pest, the use of the drug "Bison" will be effective. Also in the open field it is exposed to a garden scoop. This dangerous pest is fought by removing weeds on which it can actively develop. You should also apply the "Bison" tool.

In the middle lane, slugs can do a lot of damage to these bushes. They are fought with by removing excess tops and insulating the soil, creating an unbearable environment for their habitat. Of the pests that most often annoy in greenhouses, this is the melon aphid; the drug "Bison" is also used against it. Like many other varieties of tomatoes, it can be invaded by the greenhouse whitefly; it is fought with the drug "Confidor".

As you can see from the above, this is a fairly slow-growing variety, following the simple rules of care you can get a very good harvest. Good luck and tasty and rich result.
